Cempini House
This renovation project does more than simply restore; it reinterprets the past through a contemporary lens. This old barn, nestled in the rolling hills of the Pavia countryside, has been reimagined with lightness and deep respect for its history. The existing materials—brick, wood, and the sloping roof—interact with new transparent elements, openings that invite natural light and create a seamless connection between indoors and outdoors.
The intervention unfolds in volumes that accommodate not only the main residence but also spaces for hospitality and craftsmanship. The central structure, open to the landscape, is punctuated by large glass surfaces that capture and reflect natural light, enhancing the textures of the original materials.
The detached module, housing a studio and woodworking workshop, becomes a space for experimentation and creativity, harmonizing with its surroundings.
This project is a quiet gesture—one that does not impose but rather enhances the simplicity of the original structure, giving back to the land an architecture that is alive, capable of embracing the present without forgetting the past.
